This Tile Pattern Will Save Your Boring Bathroom

When photographer Annie Schlechter and her husband, Russell Maret (a typographer and book designer), began dreaming up a bathroom design for their art-filled Manhattan apartment, they started where any design-lover would: at the top. “We looked at tiles and loved Heath Ceramics, but it became way too expensive,” Schlechter remembers. Instead, they sourced standard square two-inch tiles from Nemo Tile in Manhattan (“In the not-even-fancy contractor section,” she clarifies) and got creative with the layout, snaking a ribbon of glossy black tiles through sea of matte white ones.
