Project Spotlight: Modern Design with a Classic Twist

Starting with a clean yet classic design, Hoboken based J Patryce & Company Design mixed Nemo Tile’s honed Carrara and Thassos marble for a timeless look in this stunning waterfront home in Weehawken, New Jersey.

For the main floor, Nemo Tile’s honed Carrara in Fosso Large Herringbone was used. Coordinating trim pieces, including the Fosso Base Trim, were used to create the look of a tile rug by bordering the mosaic. On the walls, 12×24 Thasos Directo was used in a running bond pattern, balancing the mosaic patterns on the floor and focal points.

With plenty of space to work with, a freestanding soaking tub was added alongside the large built in shower to make this a truly luxurious space. Framed behind the freestanding tub is the mini version Nemo Tile’s honed Carrara in Fosso Herringbone which created a beautiful focal point.

For the built in shower, Nemo Tile’s honed Carrara mosaic in Fosso Small Herringbone compliments the larger herringbone mosaic outside the shower. Another beautiful focal point is created on the shower wall by framing the small herringbone mosaic behind the sleek fixtures and in the shower niche.

The use of materials and the layouts, marble and classic patterns, spoke to tradition yet the built-in millwork and modern features including multiple shower heads and heated elements spoke to the client’s request for hotel-like luxury.

Principal interior designer of J. Patryce Design, Joan Enger’s style could best be described as “classic modern”, blending clean lines with traditional twists. She believes that a well-executed interior includes an interesting mix of materials, finishes and textures. The firm’s direction points anywhere from transitional to modern, but despite the specific style that is requested, each space that they touch feels unique, layered and timeless.

Project Spotlight: Spruced and Styled

A gorgeous spec home by Merrick Construction on 21 Spruce Drive in Fair Haven, NJ.

This stunning new construction thoughtfully designed and crafted by Merrick Construction, a top NJ custom home builder, can be best described as a modern meets beach traditional home. To complete his vision, Owner and Founder Timothy Cross turned to NEMO Tile + Stone Red Bank for all of his tile needs.

The modern, open layout of the sophisticated kitchen showcases custom floor-to-ceiling white in-set cabinetry that meets a modern groove painted ceiling. The cabinetry features chic transitional finishes of custom brass grills and brushed brass hardware to warm up the design.

NEMO’s 3×6 white Thassos custom marble tile was used throughout the kitchen going up the entire wall to the ceiling for a dramatic design detail.  And over the oven range, a custom framed backsplash design of polished Addi Carrara and honed Thassos is featured.  “I like the look of having a tile design directly behind the stove,” says Cross. “It creates a focal point and draws attention to the big and expansive stove.”

An over-sized riff and quarter sawn white oak kitchen island is balanced by a dark contrasting floor.

A matching pair of brushed brass pendants over the kitchen island beautifully finishes the design.

Project Spotlight: A Serene & Sophisticated Master Bath

For the master bath of this Allenhurst home, the homeowners wanted a space that was “tranquil, clean and simple.”

While the master bathroom may be the most simple of all the bathrooms in terms of the design, it was actually the most difficult to execute. The homeowners wanted a serene, clean escape, but needed ample storage and wanted to incorporate a slightly more luxurious feel. Alongside the homeowner Daniella, the designers looked through many different tile options, finally settling on Bianco Dolomiti – Direto polished marble. They all loved the bright white background with the slight variation and veining, which gave it more character than a traditional Thassos. The designers opted to use 12 x 24 tiles to create a focus wall behind the vanity, which created the perfect backdrop for the custom-made floating vanity, medicine cabinets, wall mounted faucets and sconces.

The designers loved the Bianco Dolomiti – Direto marble in a horizontal pattern because the tile “becomes almost like a watercolor design with the natural marble veining. The lines of the ocean are reflected in the Dolomiti.”

The designers originally wanted the floor to be cement, but when they saw the Area grey porcelain tile installed at the NEMO Tile Red Bank showroom, they knew it would be perfect. They opted for the larger 48 x 48 tiles to minimize the number of seams, which maintains the focus on the beautiful Bianco Dolomiti – Direto marble.

The shower and toilet are separated into their own spaces on opposite sides of the room while the frosted glass doors ensure privacy.  In the shower area, the Bianco Dolomiti – Direto marble surrounds you on all walls, and they used a smaller 3×3 mosaic made of the same marble for the shower floor.
