Project Spotlight: A Serene & Sophisticated Master Bath

For the master bath of this Allenhurst home, the homeowners wanted a space that was “tranquil, clean and simple.”

While the master bathroom may be the most simple of all the bathrooms in terms of the design, it was actually the most difficult to execute. The homeowners wanted a serene, clean escape, but needed ample storage and wanted to incorporate a slightly more luxurious feel. Alongside the homeowner Daniella, the designers looked through many different tile options, finally settling on Bianco Dolomiti – Direto polished marble. They all loved the bright white background with the slight variation and veining, which gave it more character than a traditional Thassos. The designers opted to use 12 x 24 tiles to create a focus wall behind the vanity, which created the perfect backdrop for the custom-made floating vanity, medicine cabinets, wall mounted faucets and sconces.

The designers loved the Bianco Dolomiti – Direto marble in a horizontal pattern because the tile “becomes almost like a watercolor design with the natural marble veining. The lines of the ocean are reflected in the Dolomiti.”

The designers originally wanted the floor to be cement, but when they saw the Area grey porcelain tile installed at the NEMO Tile Red Bank showroom, they knew it would be perfect. They opted for the larger 48 x 48 tiles to minimize the number of seams, which maintains the focus on the beautiful Bianco Dolomiti – Direto marble.

The shower and toilet are separated into their own spaces on opposite sides of the room while the frosted glass doors ensure privacy.  In the shower area, the Bianco Dolomiti – Direto marble surrounds you on all walls, and they used a smaller 3×3 mosaic made of the same marble for the shower floor.

Project Spotlight: A Girls’ Bathroom Fit for a Mermaid

A Modern Beach House on The NJ Shore

The homeowners of this oceanside home in Allenhurst, NJ worked with the design team of Salt Design Co. to help them achieve the look of a “clean and minimal home with a coastal edge.”  And while they wanted the design to be more masculine, it was also important that it tell the story of the ocean.

Salt Design Co. Owner, Sarah Brady and Project Manager, Jessica Chepauskas wanted each space to feel unique, but worked to maintain continuity throughout the home. Instead of a literal beach theme, they wanted to infuse their signature “Salt Style,” a fresh, classic design inspired by the simplicity of living at the beach, while also incorporating the homeowners’ eclectic personality.

While each of the seven en-suite bathrooms reflects the bedroom’s occupant, they still wanted to incorporate the overall style of the home, weaving elements of the ocean throughout each bathroom design. The end result is a gorgeous modern home full of clean lines juxtaposed with nautical nods and infusions of bohemian style.

Project Spotlight: A Girls’ Bathroom Fit for a Mermaid

The homeowners wanted to do something fun and exciting in this bathroom shared by their two youngest daughters, while remaining elegant at the same time. Finding inspiration from the sea, the Salt Design Co. team used special ordered honed NEMO Marble in various colors of ‘calacatta’ to create a unique pattern that mimicked the scales of a fish or mermaid tail.  Also built into the design is a horizontal inset shelf that runs along the entire shower wall.

The fish scales pattern was created by using 3×3 marble ‘calacatta’ gold honed tiles.  A honed finish was chosen to offset the color variances of the natural stone that looks like the color of sand. A brass Schluter Strip seamlessly finishes the design.

The flooring was designed to be simple in order to keep the focus on the gorgeous shower design. Area porcelain tile in color ‘gray’ in a matte finish was used in 12×24. The Area tile has an industrial look, which ties into the other bathrooms in the house, but in this application helps to balance the statement backdrop of the shower.

The 12×24 sized tiles were continued onto the shower floor. Rare for large format tile to be used on a shower floor, the installer expertly cut in the tile to get the proper sloping for drainage.

To tie in the overall nautical theme, a pair of sconces are reminiscent of an open oyster with a pearl. Privacy is achieved with lower frosted windows that still let’s the sunshine stream in.

While we were shooting this space, one of the girls popped in excited that “her bathroom was going to be famous!”  When asked what she liked most, she shared that “my bathroom is so pretty. The shower reminds me of a mermaid.”

Stay tuned for more highlights from this gorgeous shore home next week!

Project Spotlight: Cozy Master Bedroom Meets Coastal Chic Retreat

The homeowners of this charming Red Bank home gradually updated the master bedroom over time, starting with new furniture pieces and worked from there to redesign the rest of the space.

The floor to ceiling fireplace is the focal point of the room and was one of the main updates the homeowners worked on to help transform the look and feel of the space. The fireplace previously only consisted of a simple slate tile face along with a dated color scheme that carried throughout the room.

When it came to redesigning the fireplace, the homeowners opted for a clean white look with a Carrara mosaic tile design from NEMO’s Tempo Rock Collection and a custom built out white mantel surround.

“I’ve always liked Carrera marble and our NEMO design consultant, Denise really helped guide us when choosing the perfect material for the face of the fireplace,” says Dunn.

The fireplace continues up the wall with a clean rustic shiplap design that meets the ceiling (also covered in shiplap), to create a sophisticated beach feel against the pale-blue tinted shade of the “Baby’s Breath” wall color.

A simple and elegant chandelier hangs from the vaulted shiplap-covered ceiling in the center of the spacious room, finished off with a cozy reading nook, a dresser and jewelry chest hand painted by the homeowner, and framed prints on the mantel that add a little pop, picking up all the nautical blue shades throughout the room.
