Project Spotlight: Modern Design with a Classic Twist

Starting with a clean yet classic design, Hoboken based J Patryce & Company Design mixed Nemo Tile’s honed Carrara and Thassos marble for a timeless look in this stunning waterfront home in Weehawken, New Jersey.

For the main floor, Nemo Tile’s honed Carrara in Fosso Large Herringbone was used. Coordinating trim pieces, including the Fosso Base Trim, were used to create the look of a tile rug by bordering the mosaic. On the walls, 12×24 Thasos Directo was used in a running bond pattern, balancing the mosaic patterns on the floor and focal points.

With plenty of space to work with, a freestanding soaking tub was added alongside the large built in shower to make this a truly luxurious space. Framed behind the freestanding tub is the mini version Nemo Tile’s honed Carrara in Fosso Herringbone which created a beautiful focal point.

For the built in shower, Nemo Tile’s honed Carrara mosaic in Fosso Small Herringbone compliments the larger herringbone mosaic outside the shower. Another beautiful focal point is created on the shower wall by framing the small herringbone mosaic behind the sleek fixtures and in the shower niche.

The use of materials and the layouts, marble and classic patterns, spoke to tradition yet the built-in millwork and modern features including multiple shower heads and heated elements spoke to the client’s request for hotel-like luxury.

Principal interior designer of J. Patryce Design, Joan Enger’s style could best be described as “classic modern”, blending clean lines with traditional twists. She believes that a well-executed interior includes an interesting mix of materials, finishes and textures. The firm’s direction points anywhere from transitional to modern, but despite the specific style that is requested, each space that they touch feels unique, layered and timeless.

Project Spotlight: Ultimate Spa Bathroom with Sweeten

After over a decade of living in her Central Park West apartment, Leslie and her husband were ready to say goodbye to the outdated, 80’s-influenced master bathroom and adjacent powder, and hello to serene spa-like oasis combining the two! Working with Sweeten, a free service matching renovators with vetted general contractors, they started their transformation with Nemo Tile!

After gutting both bathrooms, their Sweeten contractor started to transform the space with double sinks and minimalist wall-mounted faucets, a lacquered vanity, gorgeous recessed lights and a full-length medicine cabinet. To complement the tawny lacquered vanities, Nemo Tile’s porcelain Oxy Triblend mosaic were used on the floor as an accent to the Oxy 24×48 large format tiles in Royal White!

Oxy is a unique porcelain tile that mimics painted sheet metal and the effects of oxidation on real metal. This unique tile turns ceramics into a furnishing element with a futuristic look that is both feisty and full of character. The Royal White color chosen for this space creates the perfect serene, spa-feel the owners desired!

For the modern wet room—an open shower space without a shower curb—Nemo Tile’s Oxy Triblend mosaic creates beautiful detailing on the floor and shelf insets, while the large format Oxy tile provides great balance. The enormous wet room, which Leslie notes as the best design element, can serve as a steam room, shower, and bathtub. Leslie said about the renovation: “I wanted the space to feel like a spa, and it does!”

Sweeten handpicks the best general contractors to match each project’s location, budget, and scope, helping through project completion. Follow the blog for renovation ideas and inspiration, and when you’re ready to renovate, start your renovation on Sweeten!

Project Spotlight: Captivating Kitchen in Brooklyn

The first room in this gut renovation of a 3-bedroom 1.5 bathroom apartment in Kensington, Brooklyn focused on creating a large inviting kitchen as the center of entertaining to accommodate large family gatherings. Architect and designer Slavica Novak Nikolic of Urban Bond Creative set out to create a bold focal point with energy to spare!

Taking principles from feng shui, Nemo Tile’s Viscaya Glass in Fire Brick was chosen as the backsplash for this newly opened kitchen. The strong, bold red creates the perfect energy for cooking and the reflective surface of the glass infuses the space with depth. The larger format of these glass subway tiles creates a sleek focal point for this open space creating great energy for entertaining.

The homeowners couldn’t be happier saying their brand-new bold kitchen is now the favorite part of their home!
