Project Spotlight: Bright and Airy Kitchen Overhaul
Homeowners, Meghan and Richard Dunn recently updated their charming 19-year-old Red Bank home from a dated traditional style with a darker color palette to a bright, modern, clean feel. Following a master suite update on the second floor, the couple decided to do the same on the first floor with a major kitchen overhaul.
The white farm style table with stone surface (purchased years prior from Williams Sonoma and refinished), would be the design inspiration for the Dunn’s new kitchen update. They decided to keep the table they loved so much and picked out their kitchen cabinetry based on that.

“I liked the white just because it was clean. We never would have gone with white without our NEMO design consultant’s input. She brought up a great point and said to me, ‘if you like changing up the colors in a room; buy a different color bouquet of flowers every week or change up the color scheme of your décor,’” says Dunn.
The white and gray Carrera marble countertops contrast nicely against the white cabinetry and to add a rustic touch, the owners opted for earth toned window treatments and custom made wooden stools for the center island to add a bit of juxtaposition to the space. Lighting was important to the Dunn’s during the renovation, as they didn’t have enough light previously. They installed high hats along with two large silver pendant lanterns over the island complimenting the stainless-steel appliances and chrome fixtures throughout the space.

The tile backsplash was the last thing the homeowners chose when designing the kitchen. “I originally wanted to go with these light blue shiny tiles,” says Meghan, “but NEMO’s design consultant talked me into the matte and it’s so much simpler but…without them I don’t think I would have ever picked it and I’m so glad I did. I love the white now!”

In keeping with the clean white feel, the homeowner’s chose NEMO’s
Cape Cod Ceramic Wall Tile in Eastham Matte white. The
Cape Cod Collection draws inspiration from classic handmade ceramic subway tile, an irregular edge and a natural undulated surface to convey a true artisan feel. The soft look of the tile is a perfect complement to any kitchen decor.
