Project Spotlight: Connie Dwyer Breast Center at Trinitas Regional Medical Center
The Connie Dwyer Breast Cancer Foundation’s mission is to bring outstanding care to all women regardless of their financial status. Partnering with Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth, New Jersey, they brought the Connie Dwyer Breast Center to the greater Elizabeth community. With the most up-to-date equipment and services available, the Connie Dwyer Breast Center is staffed with board-certified bilingual specialists who are dedicated to provide the very best in breast health care, from screening, to diagnosis and, if necessary, to treatment.
The intention of Joann Eltringham, owner of Studio E Interiors, was to create a hospitality environment for patients receiving long term care for breast cancer and diagnostic care. To assist in maintaining positive mental stability for both patients and staff, the designer chose finishes that may normally be found in high-end hotels and restaurants. These commercial finishes are extremely durable yet achieve spaces that may create more spa-like experiences promoting wellness.
The pink ribbon is an international symbol of breast cancer awareness and the color pink expresses moral support for women with breast cancer. For the accent walls throughout the center, a custom mix glass Bisazza pink mosaic sourced by Nemo Tile was used. The combination of different hues of soft pinks, iridescent tiles, and soft white with pulled copper and rose gold accents create a space of elegance and tranquility.
To continue with the high-end hospitality feel, Nemo Tile sourced Bisazza’s White Frozen Garden tile was selected as an accent wall. Designed by Marcel Wanders, this hexagonal shape tile contains 6 defined convex 3-dimensional triangles and coordinating 3-dimensional flower deco creates a gorgeous focal wall in the center’s bathroom. The almost pearlescent white glaze plays beautifully with the light and creates a brighter space.
For the floor Oxy 12×24 large format tiles in Royal White was used. Oxy is a unique porcelain tile that mimics painted sheet metal and the effects of oxidation on real metal. The Royal White color chosen for this space creates the perfect serene, spa-feel.
