Project Spotlight: A Teenage Boy’s Bathroom

Out of all of the bathroom renovations in this home, Sarah Brady and Jessica Chepauskas of Salt Design Co. say that not only was this bathroom designed last, but also it wound up being the homeowners’ favorite due to its simplicity. “The simplest ones are the best ones” the homeowner, Daniella, shared on our walkthrough. Inspired by an apothecary style, the designers wanted to add that sleek modern edge to this bathroom. Belonging to the homeowners’ only son, they wanted to create a space that would grow with him from early adolescence into adulthood. “I loved the elements we designed in this bathroom. Notice how the shower niche goes all the way across. The lines are very clean. I also didn’t want a handle to the shower so the eye focuses more on the clean lines,” shares homeowner Daniella. The horizontal inset shelf runs along the entire shower wall. This was an aesthetic element that the designers planned from the start and repeated in a few other bathrooms in the home to tie-in the design. The stylish black hardware and lighting gives this space a punch of masculinity and yet is in-step with the overall design of the house. The bathroom floor is NEMO Tile’s Dune porcelain tile in color ‘deep’ with a natural finish in large format 12x24 tiles. The Dune collection brings the aesthetic of cement into the space by mimicking the textured look of poured concrete but in a durable porcelain format. The shower floor was done in the same Dune material but in a chevron mosaic design to compliment the bathroom floor. The chevron mosaic design adds movement to the shower enclosure design while capturing an industrial essence. The bathroom and shower walls were done in Ara ceramic in color ‘naturale’ white with a gloss finish in 2x20.
