Project Spotlight: Three Daughters and a Dad. Modern Bathroom Renovations in Middletown, NJ.

Working with Designer Virginia Tesi, this dad wanted a bathroom that would accommodate his three teenage daughters but still be chic. The homeowner wanted a stone look without the maintenance as the space is for teenage girls so all porcelain tiles were used in the design.

The Girls’ Bathroom

Using 12x24 Marvel Grey Fleury in a matte finish serves to not only be safer to use on a bathroom floor but the matte finish really portrays the look of natural stone.  Laid in a center offset pattern, this setting beautifully showcases the variation in each tile. The pairing of the powdery blue-grey painted wall against the Marvel Grey Fleury gives this bathroom an elegant and sleek look, especially when complemented by the modern chrome hardware finishes. The shower walls were done in a 12x24 Marvel Statuario Select in a polished finish. The tile was set in a vertically stacked pattern creating a fresh and modern layout while beautifully showing off the elegance of the natural stone look as well as the variation of design with this tile. The homeowner was immediately drawn to this particular tile in the NEMO Tile + Stone Red Bank Showroom. And even though he hadn’t yet found his home, he knew that he wanted this tile to be in it. Originally, the plan was to use the Marvel Statuario Select in his master bath, but after bringing his daughters to the showroom to look at options (and needing to pull his 11-year old daughter out of one of the showroom display tubs!) the girls also fell in love with the marble look.  Sagely taking the suggestion of his designer to use a darker color on the bathroom floor to hide hair, the design was shifted to use this tile in the girls’ bathroom. The original bathroom shower space was enlarged and a two-vanity set-up cleverly allows each girl to have her own space and privacy. The color combination of whites and greys are used throughout the home with delightful pops of color and patterns to give a clean and modern aesthetic to the entire space while connecting each room. Foyer Guest Bath

When it came to designing the guest bath located in the foyer, the homeowner wanted something masculine with a strong design statement. He designed the bathroom around the navy-blue vanity and selected the 12x12 Bianco Carrara Marble in a polished finish. The vanity’s bold punch of color to the classic polished Carrara marble boasts sophistication and really makes a statement. The diamond pattern of this floor tile layout created a nice balance to the space. The navy-blue compliments and works nicely with the polished marble, showcasing a nice contrast. The juxtaposition. The homeowner then added in an art deco inspired mirror to finish off the look. NEMO Materials used: 12x12 Bianco Carrara Marble in a polished finish.  

Mud and Laundry Room

The homeowner opened up the mudroom and laundry room spaces to bring together style and function and knew that the darker color floor would be a great fit for high traffic areas. The 12x24 Area Smoke in a matte finish sets the tone of the home’s design from the minute you walk in. The homeowner had his installer use a darker color grout to help showcase a range of color movement within the tile. The offset pattern gives the room width and makes it feel bigger.  The homeowner knew as soon as he saw this tile in the showroom that he wanted it for his laundry/mudroom space.  The Area Smoke gives an industrial look but used in this application, it ties in the whole look of the house.   NEMO Materials used: 12x24 Area Smoke in a matte finish.  

Mud/Laundry Bathroom 

The homeowner wanted this high traffic bathroom to be functional, gorgeous and easy to maintain and selected 14x16 Area Herringbone Pearl in a matte finish with a neutral grout.  The transition into a different but complementary color and pattern into the bathroom makes a wonderful statement, contrasting from the dark Area Tile in Smoke Matte from the mudroom.
